Blake Hanna

“"Organic self sufficiency is my goal!"”

Blake left school with the aim of teaching physical education in secondary schools. After a year he realized his passions were in the practical aspects of outdoor education so off he went to study for three years in outdoor education and leadership. His first real job ( Being a paper boy does not count) was writing school outdoor education programmes and running them.
A passion for the outdoors and showing it to others sees Blake on the water, in the bush, above the snowline and climbingwith clients, whenever he is not on the farm pursuing his self sustainable lifestyle at home.
His favourite day out would be in the mountains on a sunny day, although he also enjoys floating down a river in his kayak and sampling good coffee.

John Powell

Program Instructor & Operations Coordinator
John grew up enjoying the outdoors of Florida and the surrounding southern states. Having joined the military when he turned 18, he soon began traveling and seeing the world, thus instilling in him a passion for travel. In the military as a JTAC, he was responsible for directing the action of combat aircraft engaged in close air support and other offensive air operations from a forward position. He received training not only in his core job skills but also, navigation, survival, and bushcraft.

After the military, he moved to Bend, Oregon to pursue his helicopter pilots license. While enrolled in school he worked at their local climbing gym as front desk staff and climbing instructor. Climbing in the countless places available to him in Central Oregon, he soon developed a passion for the sport as well as a deeper appreciation for the outdoors. John joined us here in New Zealand Winter of 2018 for our Adventure Guide Program. Upon completion of his program, he started working as our Operations Coordinator as well as a Program Instructor.
