The Routeburn Track is one of New Zealand's nine 'Great Walks', which have been set apart from others due to their incredible scenery. The track winds its way through Fiordland National Park and Mount Aspiring National Park, offering views of amazing Humboldt mountains, Bridal Veil falls, and native New Zealand bush.

This walk begins at the Routeburn Shelter just outside the historic town of Glenorchy, and follow the trail up the Route Burn Valley.  The track winds up the gentle slope of the valley through native beech forests and grassy flats, crossing the river over a few swing bridges and providing spectacular views of classic New Zealand landscape.  Keep an eye out for the many birds that call this area home, including the kaka and kea parrots.

We'll stop at the Routeburn Flats Hut for some amazing photo opportunities of the mountains and valleys around us. Those who would like to sit and take in the view are welcome to hang out and eat some lunch.

If there's time, anyone interested in pushing another 2.3 km up a steeper section of the track can continue on to the Routeburn Falls Hut. The extra effort is worth it - it's a great spot to enjoy the impressive waterfalls and even more stunning views of Mount Aspiring National Park.
